Weekend Food Choices Week 9: In Search of Soothing Ramen

Our Choice:
I wasnt feeling so good that day, so good soup was in order.
Hubby had seen Shinjuku when we were on Makati Ave last week and decided it was worth a try.
At the entrance of Shinjuku were food displays just like those in japan
It looked promising hehehe!
When we’re at a new restaurant i always like to ask the waiters what they think the best dishes are. If the waiter gives me a definite answer and not the generic “everything is good”, i know the restaurant trains their employees well.
Our waiter was a nice young woman who immediately started to enthusiastically tell us which among the ramen dishes were very good. When our soup came, the man who brought our bowls said that we had ordered well because the ramen we got were favorites.
Shinjuku Ramen has 2 bowl choices, the regular bowl is big and the big bowl is humongous! The ramen also has half an egg in them but you could order extra, like we did.
I ordered Manten Ramen
This is a sio based ramen with seafood and egg.
It was a very soothing dish for someone feeling under the weather
I loved the sticky noodles and the clear broth and the generous serving of seafood.
Hubby ordered Gekikara Ramen
Hubby is always in search for tonkotsu based ramen in Manila and have so far found only 1 place where it is served. Unfortunately Shinjuku did not have tonkotsu but our waiter offered us the next best thing.
She said that this ramen was her favorite because it was hot. Hubby heard the magic word and ordered the gekikara. It was good! Our waiter even came by a couple of times to ask if hubby was satisfied with his ramen. And indeed he was!
I dont think we’ve ever gone to a ramen store and not order hubby’s staple, gyoza.
I particularly liked this gyoza because the filling was not greasy. It was one of the best gyoza ive tasted.
Shinjuku is a good ramen restaurant and the great service of enthusiastic, ramen loving waiters is definitely a plus factor.

What a fantastic looking array of food.
I’ve always liked the food at Shinjuku; indeed, the Sapporo ramen is one of my favorites. But I can’t say no to the shio-based ramen, either. 😀
I’m now having hotdog, fried egg and ham for breakfast, but that gekikara ramen you featured got me salivating for shinjuku. thanks for the info. I always pass by that restaurant when I used to rent a condo in Mandaluyong on my way to work in Ayala.

i eat anything with seafood so that ramen you ordered isn’t hard to resist 😀 i just wish shinjuku would branch out somewhere other than pasong tamo area. last time we’re there at little tokyo, the roads were soaked due to heavy downpour. the place looks neat because of so many japanese food places, less the flood.

Fine Life, Toni & Doc, you should give shijuku a try. its one of the older japanese restaurants in town and although a fast food, is much better than most new ones out there.
I’m always on the hunt for the best ramen place, it’s too bad I don’t live in the area. I always like hearing about it though!
