Weekend Food Choices Week 54: Staycation
Because it will be a while until i can go on a real vacation, Hubby decided to treat me to a staycation for the long weekend and for a while it seemed like the weekend took forever to get here
Hubby kept where we were going a secret, and as we headed towards the airport i lightly joked that i had forgotten my passport at home. But really now, we both knew that wont be happening until a couple more years due to work. So we turned short of the airport into the Marriott.
I had tried getting reservations here a couple of months ago only to be turned down because they were fully booked so i was, to say the least, very excited
i was not disappointed when we entered the room and with the view of the golf course and the makati skyline i was ready to be lazy
oh and did i mention the cool room interior?
the bathtub compartment can be closed off from view with a touch of a button
i just love the details of the room switches
once we were settled in we decided to get an appointment at the spa
i thought that the fees were a little absurd especially since they made us wait for more than 5 minutes before ushering us into the spa waiting lounge when in fact we had called ahead
but after our session, my opinion about the Quan Spa made a complete 180 degree turn. i highly recommend their deep renewal full body massage and if you’d care to give them a try, ask for Rebecca, she definitely knows how to work magic with her hands!
That evening Hubby made reservations at Beurre Blanc
beurre blanc is the french name of a butter and white wine sauce usually for fish but we didn’t exactly order anything like that
On our table:
Parma ham and goat’s cheese salad
the mix of all the ingredients in this salad was superb! each taste subtle enough so that none really dominated, all brought together with the light vinaigrette dressing
Creme of Artichoke
I thought this hot thick soup was really good and got my tummy ready for our main dishes (take note of the e-s at the end of the word..)
Slow roast lamb ribs on couscous
not too long ago i thought couscous was a rice dish but apparently its pasta made of semolina flour and water
hubby had this dish with a glass of Hardys merlot
It must be very good because Hubby cleaned his plate out *snicker*
Foie Gras with Angel Hair Pasta
this extra dish we ordered was the last to be served but probably my favorite
The foie gras was very smooth and the flavor was intense. I could almost feel my cholesterol level increase with every fatty liver infused pasta mouthful
This was my main dish and i must say, it was very tasty. The risotto was really creamy, just the way i like it, and the flavor of the grilled mushroom paired very well with the thick scallops. I enjoyed this with a glass of terra vega chardonnay
this is hubby’s favorite dessert so when i saw it in the menu i was almost sure he was going to order this. It was good but of course nothing beats creme brulee at D Bar…
if you’d like to try this, or any of their souffle for dessert, be sure to order ahead because they need a 20 minute lead time as each souffle is baked as ordered
The mango and mascarpone gave this souffle good flavors but i thought that the souffle could be a little more fluffier like the one at C2.
Souffle should be served right after baking in the oven because it will generally fall after 5-10 minutes. This one had the consistency almost that of pudding but i’d like to think it was a fluke. Maybe if i try the belgian chocolate…
Although the desserts were less than perfect, the starters and main dishes in Beurre Blanc was definitely more than satisfactory, did i mention how good the foie gras was…
The weekend was definitely a great get away! Thanks Hubby for the wonderful surprise!
There are just so many things to celebrate and be thankful for…
…how did your weekend go?

when we spent weekend outside penang, in renaissance hotel manned by mariott, i was given a mariott card that earns you points then i told myself i must treat my wife & kid to mariott there in front of naia3 during our break before the year ends. i just wish we find time in between family reunions and other gatherings on those dates.
enjoy the rest of the week!
the food posts in your blog are getting better and better; yum, yum, yum! 😀
The food at Beurre Blanc looks absolutely tempting! I’m definitely trying that foie gras-topped pasta!
I like the banyo! haha
Wow what a wonderful meal!! That was sweet of your husband. I can see why the foie gras dish was your favorite!
a well deserved rest mitzi. considering our toxicity, this is heaven sent!
Looks like a great place! The whole meal looks wonderful. I especially love the Parma ham and goat cheese combo, and cream of artichoke soup is such a great idea. The souffle sounds incredible!
Wow everything looks so delicious. I want to try that on my next visit ok
Happy anniversary! I’m so proud of you. Reg is really so sweet.
I got to visit Marriot in Resorts World when they were still on their soft opening. I got a tour of the entire establishment and I instantly knew at that time that I want to stay there even for just a night. Everything looks so delicious- from the room to the spa experience to the food. What an excellent staycation!
