Weekend Food Choices Week 86: Casual Comfort Food

When hubby and i crave for Mexican food, we usually go to Makati Avenue for our Nacho & Burrito fix so when we found out that there actually was a taqueria that we’ve never tried where we hang out every weekend, we couldn’t wait to try it out.

Achiote has been open for half a year now but we never knew it was there because access to this Mexican restaurant is only from outside the mall.

Fortunately, we passed through Lopez Drive one day and saw this taqueria

Mexican food is casual comfort food for Hubby and I. Dishes are usually very messy to eat but filled with a mix of delicious ingredients.

We decided to get a Burrito Matador (Php425)

steamed & smoked meat, tripe, refried beans, cilantro, lime rice, salsa roja (roasted red salsa), pico de gallo, cheddar cheese mix and sour cream

the tripe, salsa roja and creamy cheddar cheese made this dish pretty good but not as delicious as my favorite Chihuahua burrito

For our second dish, our server suggested we try their new dish, a sort of nacho overload (Php395)…and because we’re such nacho fanatics, we just couldn’t say no

however, we found this nacho dish way too complicated…and because of the humungous portions of beans, guacamole and sour cream over everything else in the dish, the chips were pretty soggy by the time we were half way through our meal

Next time we’ll try a simpler nacho dish

Now if you were to ask me, Chihuahua would still have to be the best local taqueria, with it’s simple but quality ingredients. If you’re looking for huge proportions, i would recommend Ristras with good dishes you will probably not be able to finish alone. But if you’re in the area, and have a Mexican dish craving you need satisfied now, Achiote would be a decent option.

Where do you go for your casual comfort food?

  1. This is one place I’ve been meaning to try but we rarely go to Rockwell.

Have you tried B&T Mexican Kitchen or Hermano’s Tacos , both in the Greenhills area?
