Weekend Food Choices: Three Years of Weekend Indulgence

The first Sunday of June marks Weekend Food Choices‘ anniversary and what better way to celebrate it than by dining at The Cake Club‘s recently opened branch

I’m a fan of Diamond Hotel’s buffet breakfast so i was pretty happy a few years back when they opened a coffee and dessert bar at Rockwell. I fancied their charcoal roasted Kohikan coffee which was a delicious way to keep my energy level up especially when i had to study for the boards.

Imagine my excitement when i saw The Cake Club open their 2nd branch at Bonifacio High Street Central last month.

We kept putting off our visit because we would usually be too full after our dinner dates until i found out that their menu was not only confined to desserts.

Just in time for Weekend Food Choices’ anniversary, i thought!

On our table:

Truffle Fries (Php 180)
fried potatoes with truffle oil and sea salt

We were curious if this would compare to our favorite fries served at Stratta

The texture was great, a crunchy outer coating which gives way to soft potatoes, but hubby and i both found the flavor too subtle. I still prefer parmigiano fries for its bolder flavor but by no account can you call these fries duds.

I was, however, surprised when our other orders were served because they both came with fries. I wish we were told we would have a lot of it on our table when we asked for an order of truffle fries with our other dishes…we would still have gotten their famous specialty fries anyway since the sides were regular ones… i’m just saying!

Fortunately, aside from this minor insensitivity, the service was pretty good.

Lamb Burger (Php 490)

When this pretty dish was served, we knew the lamb patty would be juicy just by looking at it.

we were so right!

The Moroccan spiced lamb burger packs a punch and the feta, Parmesan and yogurt dressing completed the dish and got two thumbs up from Hubby. Very, very tasty!

But honestly, the primary reason i wanted to spend Weekend Food Choices here is because i heard their reuben sandwich was to die for. You see i’ve been in search for a good reuben sandwich and so far all the ones i’ve tried are ho-hum…that is, until, last weekend

Grilled Reuben (Php 310)

This is another beautiful dish i was happy to look at but was happier to finish.

The thinly sliced, soft, homemade corned beef (and this is nothing like the ones you get out of a can) was so delicious with the sauerkraut, emmental and thousand island dressing

All this goodness enveloped in buttery grilled marble rye…yum-my!!!

Of course any meal would not be the same without dessert, and as this restaurant is aptly named, there were a lot to choose from. i was in a dilemma on what to order from the wide variety of desserts. I thought about ordering their French coffee and pairing it with their pretty cakes but the cold desert won that evening.

I will definitely have to come back for their coffee and cakes.

Ispahan (Php 150)

this dessert is The Cake Club‘s frozen dessert version of Pierre Herme’s famous petit four

Creamy, raspberry, lychee and rose essence flavored ice cream, a unique dessert to complete our celebration of Our Daily Blog‘s weekend overindulgence!

If you’ve been faithfully following Weekend Food Choices, then you probably noticed a couple of changes in this anniversary post. From now on, I’ve decided that the opening photo will consist of a collection of the restaurant’s best eats. This montage will be designed with the help of my versatile and ever reliable Samsung Note (i love this gadget!). Also, we’ve decided to include the prices of the dishes in the post as suggested by several readers (thank you for all your great comments!).

We hope that you continue to enjoy Our Daily Blog’s Weekend Food Choices as much as we enjoy searching for & sharing our gastronomic discoveries!

Here’s to more delicious finds!
