Weekend Food Choices Week 71: Gourmet Comfort Food

Hubby and i took a little walk around the block to dine in at the soft opening of Apartment 1B’s 2nd home

Apartment 1B has been reaping good reviews for years now, known for serving comfort food in a chic yet comfortable ambiance

we decided to start off with cocktails

We were enjoying our drinks while watching the live telecast of the finals of the Australian Open’s Men’s Singles, which was undoubtedly one great game

the walls were decorated with flat screen TVs arranged like art pieces with one showing the match

the restaurant showcased tables with different chairs

just like my bakery story! *snicker*

we readied our palates for the main course with a warm bowl of French onion soup

Hubby loves french onion soup and we haven’t quite found a favorite version of this starter locally. Apartment 1B’s version was good but we would have loved a thicker gruyere covering the top of the bowl

Hubby’s favorite Macaroni and Cheese

the warm plate kept the cheese in its melted creamy state

pasta & smoked ham drowning in American cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan

Hubby gave a thumbs up to the creamy pasta

I wanted something light so i ordered a Reuben sandwich -light? Whatever…

i was a bit disappointed when i saw the dish because i was expecting layers of pastrami but instead got a thick layer of sauerkraut, 2 layers of pastrami and 2 layers of cheese

Fortunately, the sandwich was decently tasting, the rye bread deliciously toasted & the fermented cabbage not too overpowering despite its proportion to the meat. More meat and cheese would have made it perfect

Dinner was concluded with a cup of Vittoria coffee

This coffee brand hails from Australia and was established way back in the 1940’s when two Italian brothers decided to serve freshly roasted arabica beans in their shop. They boast of 100% arabica coffee -considered a much superior quality bean than the cheaper robusta

A delicious cup with a nice layer of crema to boast

Perfectly paired with a plate of Apple crunch

Delicious hot caramel flavored apple crisp topped with vanilla ice cream…that’l be endless hours on the glider for me!!

Our over all dinner experience was definitely positive, i love the wonderful ambiance & service was exceptionally great.

Apartment 1B serves wonderful gourmet comfort food, just short of perfect, but definitely comforting
