Weekend Food Choices Week 70: Gong Xi Fa Cai

I love the Chinese new year because it’s just another reason to eat delicious food

This year we decided to head to Glorietta to try Modern China

beating the crowd by a few minutes, we were seated right away and catered to by very attentive staff

it was a difficult few minutes, looking at the menu, because there were so many dishes to choose from but we finally decided on a couple of dimsum, noodles and two main dishes

On our table:

Hakao

i love this particular dimsum and apparently im not alone as evidenced by it landing the #34 spot in CNN’s World’s 50 most delicious food. Luckily its a staple in any Chinese restaurant…i should probably do a post on comparing the best hakao in Manila…hmmm that would be a delicious feat!

The hakao in Modern China was delicious the wrapping thin but held together when picked up and the shrimp was plump and tasty.

Taosi Spare Ribs

This is another of my dimsum staple when at any chinese restaurant. I love the simple flavor of the oil and taosi and the tender meat near the soft bones…yum!

Modern China’s taosi spare ribs were a bit different because it had tomatoes in it and it was darker than the usual pale dimsum i order but it was delicious just the same.

E-fu Noodles

This happens to be my current favorite noodle dish. E-fu also called Yi mein is a kind of flat egg noodle with a chewy texture from the soda water it is made with.

Modern China flavored this dish very well, simple but very delicious!

Now for the main dishes
Yung Chow Fried Rice

Grilled Cuttle Fish

The cuttle fish was tender and did not need any sauce to be enjoyed. We only wish it was bigger

Honey Garlic Spareribs

Hubby and i agreed that this dish was delicious. The tender pork cubes enveloped in caramelized honey and lightly flavored with garlic…it was a our favorite dish of the day!

Delicious!

Dessert dishes were light

Almond Jelly Lychee

Mango Sago

Cool endings to a hearty feast!

Here’s to wishing that the year of the Dragon bring everyone prosperity, happiness and delicious new dishes to sample.

  1. Is this not located in Glorietta 4? The reflections in the picture look like the garden grounds in front of Glorietta. Anyway, the honey garlic spareribs does look delicious! Kung Hei Fat Choi! šŸ™‚
