Weekend Food Choices Week 58: Hit and Miss

It’s been a while since the first time we spied a small restaurant within fully booked in the mall we frequent, and it was about time we gave it a try.

The dishes were simple, almost deli-like if you would

They even had a rainy day special which we found out was actually a regular since it was on the permanent menu board…

I ordered pumpkin soup
roasted pumpkin puree topped with cream

It was nice and steamy and tasted pretty good, however, i wish it was thicker

paired it with a Reuben sandwich
homemade corned beef, coleslaw, swiss cheese, and dressing on rye

A Reuben sandwich consists of layers of corned beef with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and thousand island sauce. Apparently there are a number of variations to this sandwich one of which is the Rachel (i wonder who she is…) which substitutes pastrami for corned beef and coleslaw for sauerkraut

They had me at “homemade” but unfortunately their corned beef was dry cured and the coleslaw was not that great…i wish they placed sauerkraut instead, like in the traditional reuben and wet cured the corned beef to compliment the drier nature of the rye bread

In contrast to my orders which were a little of a flop, hubby scored with his pasta dish!

Seafood Alfredo
sauteed seafood with white wine and cream

The fettuccine was al dente, which was great as we realized we could eat here if we were craving for pasta and there is a cue in Cibo! The seafood was also perfectly cooked…delicious!

Now, i say a restaurant always deserves a second chance so we’ll see if the Press will continue to provide dishes that are hits and misses…

  1. I was just here the other day and was eyeing this cafe, but since we just ate, I was too full to try anything. The pasta looks really inviting. 🙂

  2. This is a nice little place with good food at reasonable prices and I really enjoy their café Americano for a nice break during shopping. My mom really likes their sandwiches (she loves the chicken wrap) but now that you’ve highlighted the seafood pasta, we’ll have to give that dish a try! 😎
