Weekend Food Choices Week 34: Discovering the Old somewhere New

Hubby was nice enough to make plans for our weekend food choices last week but unfortunately the place he wanted to dine in still had a “soon to open” sign outside.

We ended up here

This was the first time for us to be at the Venice Piazza in McKinley Hill.

There were a lot of shops still closed but a number of families were going around enjoying the cool evening air and dining in the new restaurants that were already opened.

We’ve seen Old Vine in Eastwood before but we never got the chance to eat there before.

We were one of the first customers for the night, but soon a couple more families came in for dinner.

Hubby and i decided to order the chef’s recommendation: The Tessie Tomas Salad
Beautiful greens with salmon, shiitake mushrooms, prawns and cheese

I thought the salad was wonderful

Prawn Bisque
I found this a little too salty, but it was actually good enough to be finished…*snicker*

For my main course i decided to order the Duck Confit
I thought that this was delicious. The skin of the duck which was wonderfully crisp gave way to the good flavor of the cured meat with every bite. I loved it!

Hubby decided he would have the Lamb Spareribs
Although i was a bit surprised that the lamb was garnished with curry, the flavors were pretty good and the tender lamb meat that fell off the bones as soon as picked up was a wonderful treat.

It was a surprisingly delicious dinner detour from our original plan but i sure am glad we decided to try the Old Vine in the New Piazza Venice *wink*

…find it odd that we didn’t have dessert for the evening? Of course we did…but i’ll just have to save that story for another day…

  3. Hi Dyanie, i’ll have to try their chicken during our next visit. You know, i was wondering about the name of that salad, i didn’t get to ask the waiter because i was so hungry that evening! hahaha! too busy munching on the good dishes =p

Would you know docgelo why that salad was named after that artista? according to the reception person in old vine, their restaurant is actually part of the chef quarters restaurant, that’s probably why they have some of the same dishes.

    • i’ve read somewhere that a chef prepared that salad in a tv show hosted by tessie tomas; thus naming it after her. it’s one of my favorites; i like the fusion of flavors and textures of shrimp, mushrooms, salmon and greens.
