Cafe Juanita Celebration

we were celebrating a couple of days ago, both my victory and the fact that the next day, our cook would be back *jump for joy! no more half cooked fried chicken!!* and i decided cafe juanita would be a great place to go.

because it was a saturday evening and it was a spur of the moment decision, we did not have reservations.  i was a bit skeptical about getting in knowing how cafe juanita is a favorite dining place, but because i was too happy, my enthusiasm took over.

at the door, we were greeted by a waiter who ushered us to the reception where they looked over the list of reservations, as i suspected, they were fully booked.

we arrived pretty early and there was a 1 hour window period between our arrival and one of the reserved diners.  they asked if we would be interested in indulging withing the limited time and because we had no plan B, we agreed the limited dining period would be alright so they gave us the table.

weve dined at cafe juanita a couple of times before and we were pretty much satisfied on each occasion.  not only is the place uniquely appealing with changing decors, all of which have prices on them for interested collectors, but the food is wonderfully good!

now that hubby has a new found interest in lights and shadows, this place is a haven for this new strobist.

we were seated beside this lamp with feathered boa and i absolutely thought it was lovely.

behind me camouflaged in various antiques, i spied an espresso machine…coffee…yuum!

after a thorough look over of the menu, we decided to go with familiar dishes.

we started with fresh spring rolls

i wish the wrapping of this dish was less gooey but the gingery peanut sauce made up for the disappointment.

we also ordered our favorite tom yum

what i love about this place is after the chef cooks up your soup, a waiter brings you a small cup to taste so that you could adjust the spiciness to your liking.  when our taste test came, it was perfect for me!  of course hubby opted to spice his soup up a bit more.

our main dish was our favorite crispy pata which we paired with yang chow and crab rice.

we absolutely love the crispy pata in cafe juanita.  i dont think weve found another place with such a good crispy pata!  the texture is perfect with the most crispy skin and very tender meat.  the flavor is delicious too especially when paired with the soy ginger sauce!

i had wanted to dally and order coffee and dessert but i didnt want to hassle the generous crew if the diners who originaly reserved the table we occupied arrived, so we decided to just forego the treat this time.

as usual, we enjoyed our dining experience at cafe juanita.  thank you so much for accommodating us!  we would definitely be back soon!

  1. Great food pics! I’ve been wanting to try Cafe Juanita’s crispy pata but sadly my husband-to-be does not eat pork. Horrors! Will see if I can drag a friend one of these days. Happy eating!:-)
