Weekend Food Choices Week 59: Good Morning Mr. Sunshine

I love starting the day early but hubby is not exactly a morning person, so when he told me he wanted to do breakfast last weekend, i instantly made reservations at Cafe 1771

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, but lately i have not had the luxury of enjoying a good and leisurely morning meal

Cafe 1771 boasts of serving the best breakfast dishes in Ortigas so there was no question where we would enjoy this rare opportunity

stepping into the restaurant, i instantly knew i was going to have a great morning!

the charming furniture and bookshelves instantly appealed to this self confessed bookworm

i love how the room was lit up by natural light coming from the big windows and how they mixed fabric and more modern furniture

(notice the chairs i’ve been staring at in the store display at the mall but can’t afford…at least i could come here, eat breakfast and pretend it’s mine for an hour, i thought!)

most importantly, i love how varied the breakfast menu was, you could order something as simple as a bread basket to something as complicated as a juevos rancheros (which is, by the way, a mexican breakfast dish)

we started off with a cup of brewed coffee -delicious, creamy brew! i almost forgot to lighten it with warm milk!

as we waited for our orders i decided to check out the hard bound books beside our table and amusingly found out they were not just dummy decors but were the real thing

before i could leaf through the first book i picked up, our orders arrived…

Croque Monsieur

baked layers of ham, gruyere cheese with creamy bechamel sauce between slices of english bread

this dish is delicious! the hot gruyere cheese was intense and complemented the sweet ham. i loved how the crisp edges crumbled into the soft texture of the cheese and ham.

do prepare to share or be stuffed as this dish is pretty heavy

Eggs Florentine

hubby was not surprised when i ordered this dish of poached eggs and creamed spinach over a puff pastry boat topped with hollandaise served with side salad and a choice of home made ham or smoked salmon

i chose the smoked salmon because the croque monsieur already had homemade ham …

-who am i kidding right?! of course i chose the salmon, im a smoked salmon nut!

i love how the egg yolk runs down whenever i poke on nicely cooked poached eggs!

eggs florentine is actually a variation of my favorite eggs benedict. it adds spinach to the dish which i really like. even hubby tackled the greens with gusto when i gave him half my order!

the puff pastry variation to this dish was also genius because it made it less filling as compared to the usual english muffin.

i loved this dish so much that i wiped my plate clean and hubby teased how it looked like a storm passed through the table…*blush*

we decided to end our perfectly flavorful breakfast with a light dessert

i concluded we had enough intensity for the morning and chose a light citrusy flavored ice cream

to my delight, the ice cream flavor we chose was more of a sorbet which was exactly as i imagined the guava basil flavored dessert to be

i was told by our server that Pinkerton gourmet ice cream is exclusively made and sold in Cafe 1771 so i guess we would have to come back to try the other interesting flavors

but that morning i was just happy to enjoy the really refreshing flavor that we chose

need something to jump start your day?

have breakfast at this beautiful cafe and prepare to leave with a big smile!

  8. [...] Milky & Sunny’s version of the eggs benedict had thin hollandaise sauce and only one egg. it was a decent dish but i still prefer myrons or cafe 1771′s eggs florentine. [...]
